Setting The Tone | Autumn Winter 19

If fashion has become a ‘like’-orientated culture, the modern woman doesn’t care for it.
This season ushers in a timeless aesthetic, with a focus on resolutely smart style choices; curated, practical and above-all luxurious.

Warm shades of cinnamon, wine, tobacco, bitter chocolate and mustard sit among neutral tones of navy, black, khaki and grey – anchoring the collection. Strong colours are drenched from head-to-toe and remixed with unexpected textures, creating confident monochromatic looks.

A buttery leather prairie skirt the colour of wet clay has a 70s undertone when paired with a turtleneck in an almost identical hue...
While corduroy trousers in fawn get up-specced by a shearling jacket and cashmere jumper in complementary butterscotch shades.

The play-off between the feminine and masculine creates an epicene silhouette that is fresh for the season.

Military fatigues, razor-sharp tailoring and hiking boots are teamed with soft sweaters, demi-sheer jersey and elegant overcoats. Hair is loosely pulled back, left undone or collar-tucked – softening the overall approach – and bags are worn in an unintended way: see the mock-croc crossbody worn as a lanyard.

Sequins are back on the fashion agenda, but shown in a new guise.

The party dress silhouette is relaxed and unstructured...
Meaning sequins feel dialled-down, unpolished and altogether easier. Prints extend this idea of wearability; a baroque-inspired foiled floral makes a subtle after-dark statement, while recoloured animal motifs in metal and jewel tones remain the prints du jour.

At the core of our DNA is a stringent approach to quality and an emphasis on intelligent design, and this season’s key pieces are a case in point.

Exquisite coats, silk slips cut delicately on the bias, deluxe leather separates, Italian cashmere knits and the printed daywear dress – a Whistles signature – are underscored by an ageless, effortless sensibility which ensures they are reached for time and again.
