Behind the Scenes: Spring Summer 2025 with Kimi O’Neill and Alastair Strong

With its breathtaking volcanic vistas, serene coastlines and whitewashed buildings, La Geria, Lanzarote, is a place of spectacular beauty. It provided the perfect backdrop for our Spring Summer 25 campaign, its unique, awe-inspiring landscape complementing the collection’s textural fabrics, contemporary silhouettes and refined details. To delve deep into behind the scenes of the collection, we caught up with stylist Kimi O’Neill and photographer Alastair Strong, touching upon their creative approach to bringing the campaign to life.

Kimi O’Neill:

Firstly, can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your work?

I’m Kimi, a stylist based between London and Yorkshire. My background spans from styling
musicians in the early 00’s to an editorial career at POP and LOVE magazine, and now I develop
creative direction and campaigns for a range of clients.

The collection features a lot of unique, textural fabrics. How did you approach styling these
pieces?

My approach was all about finding the right balance between showcasing the texture and creating a
cohesive, wearable outfit. This often meant pairing the more textured pieces with simpler, more
streamlined garments, allowing the richness of the fabrics to shine without overwhelming the
overall look.

The collection’s colour palette is grounded in soft, elegant neutrals, paired with more brighter tones. How did this palette inform your styling?

I explored the collection’s palette by grouping colors and finding their natural pairings, creating harmonious combinations that contributed to the overall aesthetic.

There’s a real interplay between masculine and feminine design codes with the collection. What was your approach to striking the balance between these with the collection’s styling?

My styling approach for the collection’s masculine and feminine blend focused on harmonising proportions and silhouettes through a mix of structured and fluid pieces.

How did the unique landscape of Lanzarote inform your approach to styling the collection?

Naturally, the unique textures and earthy tones of Lanzarote’s landscape informed my styling, creating a natural connection between the collection and its surroundings. I strategically used the landscape’s diverse backdrops and tones to place specific looks, enhancing the desired mood and atmosphere.

Alastair Strong:

Firstly, can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your work?

I’m Alastair, a photographer and director based between Paris and London. I specialise in creating visual narratives for luxury products and global advertising campaigns; aiming to craft immersive imagery that ignites the imagination and elevates brands.

How did you approach bringing the Whistles Spring Summer 2025 collection to life?

My aim was to visually tell the story of the Whistles SS25 collection, showcasing its forms and textures against the dramatic, sun-kissed landscape of Lanzarote.

The shoot uses the textures and lighting of Lanzarote magnificently. How did this unique
landscape inform your creative approach?

The warm, evocative light of Lanzarote, carefully considered for specific times and locations, conveyed a sense of exploration and wonder. Softening the landscapes to background textures allowed the collection to take centre stage, inviting viewers to delve deeper.

What was your favourite location in Lanzarote to shoot in and why?

The coastline provided a stunning backdrop as the sun dipped below the horizon, the light illuminating the volcanic rock while surfing echoed in the distance.

Can you speak about how you approached the project from a collaborative perspective,
ensuring the styling and photography complemented each other?

Kimi and I were on the same page from the start, beginning, as we always do, with a deep dive into everything from the colour palette to the overall mood. This shared vision guided our collaboration on the styling and photography, resulting in a campaign that truly captures the collection’s spirit.
